The Disgrace Of Secret Abuse
Through a network of Chinese whispers and Russian Mumbles distressed Secrets make their way to Connie Fidenshall’s Secret’s Shelter where the suppressed and misheard find a welcome. The address remains undisclosed; even the front door keeps itself to itself, eschewing regular Thursday selfie opportunities. Inside Secrets relax, opening up to those who’ve been kept in the margins of polite society. Illicit love poems meet whistleblowing memos for evenings spent reading out loud. Baby Secrets have showers whenever they want. Even Secrets with violence, cruelty and deception at their heart are included: it’s not the Secret’s choice to be captive.
My name is Geoff Le Pard. Once I was a lawyer; now I am a writer. I've published several books: a four book series following Harry Spittle as he grows from hapless student to hapless partner in a London law firm; four others in different genres; a book of poetry; four anthologies of short fiction; and a memoir of my mother. I have several more in the pipeline.
I have been blogging regularly since 2014, on topic as diverse as: poetry based on famous poems; memories from my life; my garden; my dog; a whole variety of short fiction; my attempts at baking and food; travel and the consequent disasters; theatre, film and book reviews; and the occasional thought piece. Mostly it is whatever takes my fancy.
I avoid politics, mostly, and religion, always. I don't mean to upset anyone but if I do, well, sorry and I suggest you go elsewhere.
These are my thoughts and no one else is to blame. If you want to nab anything I post, please acknowledge where it came from.
I like that one!
A crossword answer today (3 words) quoted Churchill describing Russia as “a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma”…

Clever! I liked the allusions especially the one to Thursday Doors.

That was different. I guess even secrets need somewhere to shelter.

Very clever, Geoff. Hercule Poirot would be proud of you.

Ooh. This sounds like it would be a great setting for a book! Wonderfully creative, Geoff.

I do like the idea of secrets having their own existence. In a parallel universe, concepts take on a corporeal form

Yes, I can see kids sneaking into the house of secrets and having to discover the “big” secret that ties them all together in order to get out.

Sounds like one of us should get to it? Or rewrite it together…!

I was thinking the same! I even know what the big secret is that sets them free!

Ha ha ha ha. Have you read House by the Cerulean Sea? It’s fabulous. Your story reminded me of something along those lines.
