This week’s prompt is face and I’m up onto my soap box
First I wrote this
For all those running the human race
And remaining intent on upping their pace:
If you don’t stop bleating
That we’re not overheating,
You’ll never again show your face…
Then I thought of a better last line, even though it took me from the prompt..
For all those running the human race
And remaining intent on upping their pace:
If you don’t stop bleating
That we’re not overheating,
History will judge you a total disgrace.

About TanGental
My name is Geoff Le Pard. Once I was a lawyer; now I am a writer. I've published several books: a four book series following Harry Spittle as he grows from hapless student to hapless partner in a London law firm; four others in different genres; a book of poetry; four anthologies of short fiction; and a memoir of my mother. I have several more in the pipeline.
I have been blogging regularly since 2014, on topic as diverse as: poetry based on famous poems; memories from my life; my garden; my dog; a whole variety of short fiction; my attempts at baking and food; travel and the consequent disasters; theatre, film and book reviews; and the occasional thought piece. Mostly it is whatever takes my fancy.
I avoid politics, mostly, and religion, always. I don't mean to upset anyone but if I do, well, sorry and I suggest you go elsewhere.
These are my thoughts and no one else is to blame. If you want to nab anything I post, please acknowledge where it came from.
Fair enough in the interests of improvement

Jolly good, Geoff – but what about just changing the second line?
“For all those running the human race,
remaining intent on showing their face…” x

I’m with you on that. Reality doesn’t need a soap box, just opened eyes!

Yup, if only.. talking of eyes, how’s things?

So much better. It is distressing to hear that even with my blurred vision the doctor says I still qualified to drive. Now I am less amazed by bad drivers.

Oh don’t. the battles with my mother and mother in law over driving have left permanent scars. Glad things are ticking up

For all those ruining the human race
Who remaining intent on upping their pace:
If you don’t stop bleating
That we’re not overeating,
We’ll soon judge your wit by your waist.
Okay…. but on the same topic:
For all those running the human race
And remaining intent on keeping their place:
If you don’t stop bleating
That we’re not overheating,
Your legacy will be a waste.

In the first one, I meant to put “who remain intent”

Very well done, Geoff. I prefer the first ending. At the rate global warming is happening there wont be anyone left to record the history or read it.

Yes. It’s getting to be ridiculous

Everyone running the human race,
who is intent on picking up the pace,
and constantly, outlandishly bleating
the lie that Earth isn’t overheating,
you’re a jarring joke, a dopey disgrace.

* Another attempt at getting the rhythm right.
Everyone running the human race,
who is intent on picking up the pace,
and forever, outlandishly bleating
the lie that Earth isn’t overheating,
you’re a jarring joke, a dopey disgrace.
