My name is Geoff Le Pard. Once I was a lawyer; now I am a writer. I've published several books: a four book series following Harry Spittle as he grows from hapless student to hapless partner in a London law firm; four others in different genres; a book of poetry; four anthologies of short fiction; and a memoir of my mother. I have several more in the pipeline.
I have been blogging regularly since 2014, on topic as diverse as: poetry based on famous poems; memories from my life; my garden; my dog; a whole variety of short fiction; my attempts at baking and food; travel and the consequent disasters; theatre, film and book reviews; and the occasional thought piece. Mostly it is whatever takes my fancy.
I avoid politics, mostly, and religion, always. I don't mean to upset anyone but if I do, well, sorry and I suggest you go elsewhere.
These are my thoughts and no one else is to blame. If you want to nab anything I post, please acknowledge where it came from.
Just watched on Facebook yesterday’s video of the players coming onto the pitch, lining up, silence, anthems. Very well observed I must say, and moving. Well done, all.
Perfect, touching and feelings held by all of us, even the most hardened anti monarchists will be touched and begrudgingly say she was a marvel.
I will miss her, she has been Queen since the year I was born . God save the King….it’s not an easy job.
Touching, Geoff. It’s amazing how quickly the crown has transferred. I guess they had to be prepared. It was coming sooner rather than later. Life will be strange without her. She’s been there, as Queen and Head of State, all my life.
Yes. I believe there are less that 200,000 people here who recall the pre Elizabethan age out of 65 million. It’s the lack warning that’s added to the shock even if we all knew it wasn’t far off
Excuse me adding my little bit: the other reasons for rapid handover are to keep the momentum going and, in former days, to prevent any Pretender claiming the throne in a hiatus.
Gosh, that’s so few, Geoff – wow. Even Paddington Bear arrived 6 years after the Queen’s accession!
Hi Geoff,
I’ve been waiting to see what you had to say about the passing of the Queen, as you’ve become my London correspondent of sorts. I’ve come to deeply miss her and in all the footage since her passing, found a great depth of character and that she has an enormous amount to teach us, even from beyond the grave. For many Australians, our relationship with the Queen as our Head of State is strained and inappropriate given our Aboriginal origins and geographical location. However, that doesn’t stop us from celebrating what was an extraordinary life of dedicated service and leadership. I shared some of my experience here: https://beyondtheflow.wordpress.com/2022/09/11/farewelling-the-queen-an-australian-perspective/
and it would be great to get your response.
Best wishes
Rowena
PS Have you been past Buckingham Palace at all?
I’ve commented on your post Ro. No not been to Buck House. Its one of those places I tell myself I’ll go sometime and still haven’t. I will go and look at the flowers.

Yes. I think that too. But I guess her family and the government have had all the protocols worked out for a long time.
