It all started so well. The Textiliste brought home this baking magazine. In it was a gluten free recipe for a clementine cake.
Why not, I thought. I have the ingredients. That was Thursday evening.
Friday was always going to manic. The Vet rang a few weeks ago to report that the extended covid restrictions had put paid to the hen do plans for the pre-bride and could they possibly use our house and garden…?
I said yes. The Textiliste gave me one of those ‘you pathetic male’ looks she patented sometime in the 1970s and so Friday was clearing the decks for the Vet to set things up… which took all day.
There was no way Dog and I were going to be anywhere near it and the Textiliste decided to join us escaping to the country. We arrived in our bolt hole at midnight, slept in and woke for coffee and a slice of cake…
Which I left in the fridge. News has it the hen and chicks are very grateful…
My name is Geoff Le Pard. Once I was a lawyer; now I am a writer. I've published several books: a four book series following Harry Spittle as he grows from hapless student to hapless partner in a London law firm; four others in different genres; a book of poetry; four anthologies of short fiction; and a memoir of my mother. I have several more in the pipeline.
I have been blogging regularly since 2014, on topic as diverse as: poetry based on famous poems; memories from my life; my garden; my dog; a whole variety of short fiction; my attempts at baking and food; travel and the consequent disasters; theatre, film and book reviews; and the occasional thought piece. Mostly it is whatever takes my fancy.
I avoid politics, mostly, and religion, always. I don't mean to upset anyone but if I do, well, sorry and I suggest you go elsewhere.
These are my thoughts and no one else is to blame. If you want to nab anything I post, please acknowledge where it came from.
Nobody has commented on this yet, but I found the “you pathetic male” comment quite amusing, probably because I’ve seen it enough times to recognize it.🤣
The cake looks magnificent Geoff.

Dog understands the importance of taking back to back naps

I love seeing contented canines. Nothing is as calming as happy, loved, and fed 4-footed family sleeping without a care.
Never heard of Clementine cake. I’ll have to look it up. Hope it was delicious.

There are some things you can’t unsee, and Dog is delicate of constitution. I couldn’t do that to him.

It’s a badge of honour in many ways. I learnt from my father’s experience who was professionally pathetic in many ways
