It’s rained, it’s poured and I couldn’t be happier.
Obviously I hope this doesn’t continue right through to the wedding but that’s a way off. But while it’s stripped a lot of the poppies, the foxgloves are more foxmittens and the roses may smell a sweet by any other name, they don’t look great after the Great Sky Sponge has wrung itself out on their heads.
Meanwhile the lawn has grown exponentially, the seedlings are getting ahead of themselves and we will be ready for the great strip off in the next couple of weeks, once things have dried out a bit.
And meanwhile there is still colour to be found and hidden gems.
Yep, I probably prefer the Troggs version but Love is All Around Us right now. Not sure about Dog. I think he’s more into Biscuit Rock…
My name is Geoff Le Pard. Once I was a lawyer; now I am a writer. I've published several books: a four book series following Harry Spittle as he grows from hapless student to hapless partner in a London law firm; four others in different genres; a book of poetry; four anthologies of short fiction; and a memoir of my mother. I have several more in the pipeline.
I have been blogging regularly since 2014, on topic as diverse as: poetry based on famous poems; memories from my life; my garden; my dog; a whole variety of short fiction; my attempts at baking and food; travel and the consequent disasters; theatre, film and book reviews; and the occasional thought piece. Mostly it is whatever takes my fancy.
I avoid politics, mostly, and religion, always. I don't mean to upset anyone but if I do, well, sorry and I suggest you go elsewhere.
These are my thoughts and no one else is to blame. If you want to nab anything I post, please acknowledge where it came from.
Thank you Di. The nervy bit comes now, Iām told by Mrs Floribunda as we cut back and pull up to create space for a humungeous planting effort. Gulpā¦
The Troggs nailed it but the Wets did OK too. The garden is holding up nicely under your care and the welcome rain .Just a few small blips that everyone has, Looks Fantastic.
Hugs
Hugs David. I thought of you today when Linda and I paid a visit to see her cousins in Norfolk and there was this diffidence as we stood in a group, with the odd elbow being proffered. Weāve all been double jabbed so I said āA wise Welshman tells me that without hugs we risk losing our sanity,ā at which point Maud grabbed me and enthusiastically agreed. Everyone else then joined in. See what youāve done.
I’ll bet that rain was really welcome. We had the driest May on record here – HOT – but June has treated us to several days of downpours. Our local turtle population is ecstatic!
Hot turtles! Sounds like a new punk band. Glad youāve been watered. Weāre getting some more before a week or so of sun, which given Wimbledon is just starting is unexpected..
No worries about it raining for the wedding- given how rare rain is there, what?
Oh, I see.
I stand corrected Geoff.
You might be well advised to secure some color coordinating panchos. . .
It’s raining here too Geoff but it’s a winter rain not a summer rain like yours! Not much colour here but the rainbows have been a nice break from the grey skies. Your garden is looking beautiful š

Garden is looking fabulous and will be perfect for the big day. I LOVE that song and Wet Wet Wet. Sigh. The band members are so easy on the eye.
