Profoundly Shallow #morganandlogan #morganandlogandoamerica

‘Where are we?’

‘The Great Lakes, Morgan. Lake Erie.’

‘It sure is eerie. Too bloody quiet.’

‘Can’t we just enjoy its magnificence?’

‘It scares the willies out of me. It’s… so deep.’

‘Yes mysterious. Profound.’

‘It’s just a lot of the wet stuff that given half a chance will swallow me whole.’

‘It’s majestic. Unknowable. Imagine what memories it holds…. You know what they say about Still Waters?’

‘He’s the best Pokemon Go hunter ever?’

‘Stile Warters, German Guy. He caught more Pokemon last year. Shall we see if any are here?’

‘Sure. Why not try out there?’

Another piece of philosophical potpourri from the minds of Morgan and Logan as they explore America in their quest to find the carrot ranch, based on this week’s prompt

June 11, 2020, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story deep waters. It can be literal or metaphorical. Think of a place and person and situation. Explore. Bathe. Renew. Go where the prompt leads!

About TanGental

My name is Geoff Le Pard. Once I was a lawyer; now I am a writer. I've published several books: a four book series following Harry Spittle as he grows from hapless student to hapless partner in a London law firm; four others in different genres; a book of poetry; four anthologies of short fiction; and a memoir of my mother. I have several more in the pipeline. I have been blogging regularly since 2014, on topic as diverse as: poetry based on famous poems; memories from my life; my garden; my dog; a whole variety of short fiction; my attempts at baking and food; travel and the consequent disasters; theatre, film and book reviews; and the occasional thought piece. Mostly it is whatever takes my fancy. I avoid politics, mostly, and religion, always. I don't mean to upset anyone but if I do, well, sorry and I suggest you go elsewhere. These are my thoughts and no one else is to blame. If you want to nab anything I post, please acknowledge where it came from.

Oh, well 😂I always enjoyed its magnificence and reading about lake Erie brings back so many wonderful memories (we lived close by in the 90s). Thanks for this story.

  2. Yay, Lake Erie! (The shallowest–if most profound–of the Great Lakes.) I plan on visiting said lake for a couple weeks this summer, during which time my boys are going to learn to sail (and then they can teach me!). Fun flash, Geoff.

They’ve made it to Lake Eerie! Maybe they should detour into Canada, come around Lake Ontario and Lake Huron. Real pretty up that way. Or drop down to lower Michigan and drive north, north, north, cross the Might Mac Bridge and come to the wilderness known as the UP. Travel another day and arrive at that thumb jutting into the belly of Lake Superior and won’t the boys be surprised by how big she is! I’ll have pasties waiting.

The boys are determined to share a carrot with you but their sense of direction and they ease with which they are prompted onto detours means it might be a while yet…
