I’ve not read as much as I should because I’ve been on an audible binge. However I’ve had a few days when my world has been driving me dental. An operation to remove a reluctant canine has been less than delightful, but as compensation I’ve actually turned some pages.
First off the block is Sinister Dexter the third in the Porter Girl series by Lucy Brazier. This is what I wrote for Amazon.
I’m now part of the Portergirl fandom. Three books in and a worrisome gap where the next one has yet to reside. It is fascinating to see how the characters develop, how the nuances are, erm, nuanced over the course of the books with new characters introduced and old ones enhanced. The story seems, at times, a little lost amongst the interactions of the players and maybe that is a weakness here which the first two books do not suffer from but still, it never matters much because Deputy HeadPorter, the Dean, Head Porter et all could be doing the washing up and still you’d want to read on. Indeed the making and cooking of a cottage pie is both mundane and joyous. How can that be? Well that’s how Ms Brazier writes, with dash aplomb and just the right amount of potato topping. Potatoes. Ah yes, the test, set in this book: are you an egg or a potato? You really need the answer to that question and, well, you’d better read the book to find out why.
If you want a chuckle in a believably wacky setting go and join Deputy Head Porter at Old College and Lucy’s cast of characters in her trilogy. It’s the sort of love child that might emerge if Inspector Morse took tea at Porterhouse College in the Tom Sharpe novel Porterhouse Blue.
Just never ever ask her if she thinks you’re an egg or a potato…
Sinister Dexter and the other Porter Girl books can be found here.
Lucy can be found here.
Eggs and potatoes can be found here.
I have it on my Kindle to read 💜

Thanks. Yep solids but still grizzly. I see the dentist tomorrow so hopefully there’ll be no sucking teeth.

Sorry about your tooth. I’m pleased it was not Dog who was removed
