I am prone, or so I’m told, to ramble, to obfuscate and dissemble and…
But not today. Today is too important for that. Today is when I tell you all about our venue for the Bloggers Bash 2018.
You all know it is happening.
You all know the date. May 19th 2018 in case that one slipped by you.
And now you know the Venue. Well you will when I tell you.
Once again we have decided to bring all you cuddly little Bashites to London, not because we are especially London-centric, even if I am, but because it is probably easiest for everyone to get here.
Last year we based ourselves very centrally, in Victoria and that was splendid in terms of location. But the Venue itself… not so much. It was expensive (we made a loss and the cost of the food and drink was, well, pretty eye-watering) and the room lacked a degree of flexibility. We had a chat, as you do – Sacha called it a debrief but then she’s into doublespeak – and decided that what the Bash needed was a pub, better still a function room in a pub that was accessible to people arriving in the centre which gave us enough space and was in a price bracket that meant it gave decent value for money.
We believe we have secured just the business, the cat’s whiskers, the bees knees, the dog’s, erm, cough, what-have-yous in
The George VI Chiswick
As you can see this is a traditional pub set on lovely trendy Chiswick High Road, and is run by Fullers, the pub company with years of experience.
We have secured the Boston Room that has capacity for up to 160, with its own bar and stage for awards, presentations and the wonderful range of events that we will be hosting.
For those of you unfamiliar with Chiswick it lies to the west of the Centre and is 10 stops on the District Line from Victoria (takes about 25 minutes and occassionally you may have to change at Earls Court) and 9 stops on the Piccadilly Line from Green Park, with a change at Hammersmith to (or from, depending whether you are coming or going – this is because the Piccadilly trains only stop during rush hours on week days) the District Line. The nearest station is Turnham Green which sounds like one of my early seafood curry attempts. If you are coming from Heathrow there is a link on the self same Piccadilly line (with said change at Hammersmith). It is a leafy suburb and a very pleasant place to while away a few hours in the company of other bloggers.
Nearer the time we will provide more information about food etc and a reminder of how to get there but for now here are a few video clips I took to get you in the mood….
Here’s me at Victoria as I go on a George IV hunt.
And here I am at Turnham Green station.
Here’s the pub…
And here’s the Boston Room.
Don’t mind the commentary; it was for the Bash Committee but it gives you some idea how I ramble. As I said at the the top, I do go on rather…
Looks so much fun. Wish I was closer. Enjoy!

I loved the videos and the Boston stranglers function room. The thought of sushi and chips bothers me … chips and chips sounds much better 😃 We may all be drawn to Waterstones on mass. M&S a bookshop and a pub who could not be satisfied. Great post Great venue and I look forward to meeting friends old and new.

I’m sure hoping I can be…. it’s my honourary niece’s (best friend’s daughter) first birthday on that revised date… no plans have been made as yet on their behalf… but I am holding out hope that they decide to keep it family on the actual day and I can still be at the Bash, guilt free!… after all I need ot continue the Bash Bake Off! (I think we should have that as an extra challenge for all coming – BYOB – Bring Your Own Bake!

For those of you in Europe, this is something I hope to attend some day, but if you’re already there, check out the 2018 Bloggers’ Bash. The venue has been selected as shown in this post from Geoff Lepard’s blog.

Looks perfect, Geoffle! Am so glad we’re going back to an informal pub venue, it worked so well year before last, I think it will be a great hit. Love the little stage area, maybe we should do karaoke as well, lol! Only joking! can’t wait to see you all… seems only 5 mins since I was leaving the Bash and standing at that very station. So it will work really well for me. Do you know if there are any hotels within walking distance? Turnham green seafood curry… very funny! Green with envy over your fab cooking skills, more like! xxx

Ha. My cooking has been likened to a political career – starts with unbridled optimism and ends in failure. Ha, there’s me fishing for compliments again. Looking forward to catching up. I’ll do some research on hotels and B&bs.

Hi! Ooh, the new venue looks wonderful. A pub!! I couldn’t be happier 🙂
As a true Northerner, my knowledge of where Chiswick actually is…well, that is almost non-existent. I have plenty of time to get my geography sorted though. And I’ll be hotelling it for a night or two anyway. It’s all good!
I’m getting excited already 🙂

We are all looking forward to meeting up Em. It is easily the most blog-affirming day imaginable. If you ever have doubts about the wisdom of blogging this event dispels it. And that’s before the Ritu whirlwind or the Hugh hugs…

Hi Jill
It will be great to see you there! We haven’t fixed the start time yet but last time out it was mid to late morning to register – say 11.30, if you’d like a rough estimate, with proceedings ending at 5ish. We have a committee hangout in the next week and i’ll mention you asked; if you are wondering and planning then so are others so we should let people know.
Are you staying over or just the day? We try and have a meal after the formal events are done (formal? ha! less informal perhaps) for those who aren’t rushing to catch trains, planes and other charabancs of choice. And sometimes, if people are around on Sunday mornings there are even less informal reprises, given people don’t want it to end. This whole ‘meet your blogging friends’ thing really is addictive.

Hi Geoff. Thanks for the info. I’m a new blogger! . I haven’t finalised plans yet. I might be the sleeper train down from GLASGOW and pretend I’M Miss Marple. Expect I’ll stay till sunday. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Jill

Hi It’ll be my first time at the Bloggers Bash or any blogging bash for that matter, a little nervous, but I’d really like to travel down, (from Yorkshire) to attend and hopefully learn a thing or two 🙂

You’d be very welcome and I can pretty much guarantee you will enjoy it. The first time we did it we wondered if, well, all these introverted bloggers would be weirdos and wackos but they were, universally, lovely. The day just flies by. So please do come; you’ll find it can be a bit of a free hug fest but if that’s not your thing then no one minds either way. Just be prepared to smile a lot and go away just knowing you have to keep blogging to justify coming back next time!
And if you have any questions about anything, however small then please mail me at glepard@saqnet.co.uk, or via the twitter chat on Sundays via #blogbashchat between 7-8pm UK time
