Here’s the latest from Charli’s Ranch
June 1, 2017 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about feeling content. Explore what is contentment and any direction will do. Go where the prompt leads.
This should be easy, shouldn’t it, being content? Like this

Many many ways
It seems to involve a lot of sleeping…
As for Mary…
Being content
‘Mum what is adult content?’
‘You know. Stuff that only adults should see or hear.’
‘Oh yeah. Soz. Silly.’ Penny sniggered. ‘It’s con-tent, isn’t it? Not content. You know like dad after a curry.’
Mary smiled. ‘The content of the curry makes him content.’
‘What makes you content, mum?’
‘The family being happy.’ She smiled. ‘Your grandma was the same. She always said if we were happy, she was content.’ Mary thought back to her mother’s last days, when she knew she was dying. She’d been content then. It angered Mary then, that acceptance. Now maybe she understood it.

Contentment is something I’ve been working through for some time. I guess for me, feeling content is difficult when you are striving after unattained goals. I’ve been working with the assistants I’ve been receiving through the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme), to sort through a vast backlog of things and “declutter” the house. The clutter didn’t bother me too much, except in regard to having people over. However, it does feel a relief to see space opening up and that I’m able to start selling/giving away things I’ve been wanting to move on for some time. One of my primary motivators here is to get the kids organized with their schoolwork. It has taken a long time to really start seeing significant improvement, but I’m starting to see it coming together.
My book writing is another uncompleted goal and I don’t want to become content with doing the blog and not pushing myself to achieve that.
Yet, at the same time, ideally there’s a sense of contentment which is somewhat constant despite all of that. Where you’re not going to fall apart while you’re working on various goals and possibly even experiencing setbacks or just heading in reverse.
We do need to feel some sense of inner peace or equilibrium for our own well being.

Your last point is well made, having things at least feeling in balance is crucial

Speaking of balance, I know you’ll love my flash for the latest Carrot Ranch prompt. Nothing like a Border Collie when it comes to obsessive focus.
I hope you have a great time at the Bloggers Bash and stay safe.
Best wishes,

Great photos of contentment. A very odd word, content with two meanings and pronunciations. I like the word content over happiness every time.

Yes I agree it feels deeper less superficial

Great word play and collage of Contented Geoff Le Pard. Mary has it right though; we evolve through many layers of expectations and acceptance. Life can feel like the daisy game, pulling petals — I’m content; I’m not. Hopefully we learn to land contented in the end.

I think if generally we can grab morsels of contentment out if a day we’re doing ok
