Charli’s prompt this week takes us right back to the very beginning.
April 6, 2017 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write about a creation myth. You can write your own, use one in a story or create tension (or comparability) between science and culture on the topic of creation. Go where the prompt leads leads.
‘Mum, do people really believe the Genesis story? Mrs Ryder says they’re Creationists but that’s stupid.’
‘Why?’
Penny looked surprised. ‘You’re an Atheist. You don’t believe…’
‘But that doesn’t make me right.’ Mary smiled. ‘No, I don’t believe in God and Adam and 7 days of creation. But unlike homework I can’t prove or disprove it.’
‘Homework?’
‘You can rely on there always being homework. It’s existence is never in doubt. What’s yours?’
‘Write a creation story.’
‘Ok so if it’s not Genesis, what is it?’
‘Big Bang.’
‘And what’s that?’
‘I… dunno.’
‘Exactly, love. Different folks, different strokes.’

I like that a lot! The kids should already be taught that an opinion is not the truth and everybody is entitled to have an own opinion!

That’s such a difficult thing to get across, isn’t it?

Gosh, it is! That’s why I think that our children teach us a lot more than the other way around… just in a different way!

I am sure that’s a very wise thing to understand Erika. If only more adults saw it.

And if only they saw it early enough…. so much damage can happen when you miss the moments to support them that way when they are open to it….

Mary is wise on several accounts — about teaching many truths through one her daughter will get.

Yep I sort of recall a similar conversation with the Vet years ago trying to get her to understand opinions. The Lawyer was easier since he was already arguing with friends about best football team…

Hmm, I hadn’t thought about football being life instructional, but I see the possibility.
