Music For The Hard Of Meaning – day two #songchallenge #music

I hope you’re keeping up. I’m on a  five day song diet where I post 5 songs whose lyrics mean something to me.

Some years ago, for Children in Need the Beeb did this version of Lou Reed’s classic, Perfect Day. It, well, it just says it really, and, yes, I get a lump in the throat hearing it because I have a lot of Perfect Days and many don’t and this helps keep me hanging on… Oh and the combination of voices is sumptuous.

This challenge comes from Willow initially and then Ritu; here’s the rules which I’ve ignored (a bit). But go and check theirs because they are both lovely..

The rules are:
Post a song a day for five consecutive days.
Post what the lyrics mean to you.  (Optional)
Post the name of the song and video.
Nominate 1 or 2 bloggers each day of the challenge.

It’s the nominate piece that I don’t like; I know this is an imposition but let’s have a think? Nope, no one. Maybe tomorrow

About TanGental

My name is Geoff Le Pard. Once I was a lawyer; now I am a writer. I've published several books: a four book series following Harry Spittle as he grows from hapless student to hapless partner in a London law firm; four others in different genres; a book of poetry; four anthologies of short fiction; and a memoir of my mother. I have several more in the pipeline. I have been blogging regularly since 2014, on topic as diverse as: poetry based on famous poems; memories from my life; my garden; my dog; a whole variety of short fiction; my attempts at baking and food; travel and the consequent disasters; theatre, film and book reviews; and the occasional thought piece. Mostly it is whatever takes my fancy. I avoid politics, mostly, and religion, always. I don't mean to upset anyone but if I do, well, sorry and I suggest you go elsewhere. These are my thoughts and no one else is to blame. If you want to nab anything I post, please acknowledge where it came from.

Another great choice, Oh! Now Judy sent me this so maybe we should cut out some of our reprint of lyrics… It’s a mine field 😱😱
Terri Webster Schrandt regarding the publishing of song lyrics. Please see below. With that in mind I will just give you a taster of the lyrics and you will just have to listen carefully to the song! ****
Just letting you know to be careful not to post all the lyrics of songs (copyright infringement potential), kind of like using google images. I read you can post the first 25 words of lyrics and quotes without an issue.
    Apologies willow xx

  4. What a great mix of artists…I’d never seen this one. Anything that includes Bowie is special. Thanks, Geoff.

My idea of a perfect day has changed with my circumstances in life. For example, if someone had said to me when I was 25 that going for a walk on their own would be perfect, I’d have thought they were mad: how can you have a perfect day without a partner? But now I know that you can! It’s a strange feeling.
Did prefer Lou Reed’s version but it doesn’t matter because the lyrics are really simple but full of feeling: agree with you that it should be a selection.

  6. I had this on a single cassette with three versions: male and female vocalists, all female vocalists and all male vocalists. All three were excellent, but Lou Reed’s orignal gives me goose bumps (of the nice variety).
