Sometimes you just have to see things from the other person’s point of view; I learnt that from my dad who always held the other person’s point of view in his discussion with me.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is both a modern fairy story – well, many intertwined fairy stories – and writing that has inspired my own. This is part of Writer’s Quote Wednesday.

About TanGental
My name is Geoff Le Pard. Once I was a lawyer; now I am a writer. I've published several books: a four book series following Harry Spittle as he grows from hapless student to hapless partner in a London law firm; four others in different genres; a book of poetry; four anthologies of short fiction; and a memoir of my mother. I have several more in the pipeline.
I have been blogging regularly since 2014, on topic as diverse as: poetry based on famous poems; memories from my life; my garden; my dog; a whole variety of short fiction; my attempts at baking and food; travel and the consequent disasters; theatre, film and book reviews; and the occasional thought piece. Mostly it is whatever takes my fancy.
I avoid politics, mostly, and religion, always. I don't mean to upset anyone but if I do, well, sorry and I suggest you go elsewhere.
These are my thoughts and no one else is to blame. If you want to nab anything I post, please acknowledge where it came from.
That is a great quote, and one which made me smile. What is it about that generation, the men always want to play devil’s advocate! My husbands father is like that, and in fact my hubby may be going more that way himself as he gets older!

Always been a favourite quote. Reminds me of flying and being squeezed through the pores of the seat on take-off…

I, too, find myself influenced by the H2G2 series; but this is Thursday, and I never could get the hang of Thursdays.

It is though it was written as a radio series and that is the best way to experience it if you managed to find an audio version here’s a clip with the ‘I’d rather be happy than right’ quote. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPWnitDyIOw

Thanks for the quote Geoff. It appeals to my sense of humour. I have to read that series. It was very popular when I was at school but as usual, I missed the boat.

I love the Hitchhiker’s Series – and anything else Douglas Adams wrote. Great quote, too 🙂

I have enjoyed it for years and love going back to it when I can. Fur me it is best on radio.

Yes, I re-read it often as well. And I remember the BBC production in the early 80’s with that great theme tune – was it the same one they used on the radio show?

Yes, same tune and same narrator with Peter Jones as the Book – Adams had him in mind when he wrote it
