Is 777 the new 666?

The rain had eased to a light drizzle. When the girl had sat down and the dog had come and sat by her feet she looked Jerzy up and down. “Any chance of another fag?” He frowned and she mimed smoking. He sat and rolled another.

“Ta. I’m Suzie. You?”

777 Writer’s Challenge.

The rules are to go to the 7th page of your current WIP, find the 7th sentence, and then paste the following 7 sentences into your blog post. You must then nominate 7 other writers to do the same.

Odd. I did as I was bid (Thanks Ali and Sue) and the above appeared. It happens to be the meeting of my two protagonists. You couldn’t find a more important moment. It feels like it should be 666 not 777, given how spooky that is. Someone ought to receive a grant and undertake a leximetric analysis of all novels to identify if the key moments always conform to a 777 structure.

You see the bit I usually rail against, the nomination piece? Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. This is one of the ‘I don’t’ ones. But, of course, if any of you fancy seeing if this formulation works for you, then feel free to indulge your freakazoid side

  3. Curiosity aroused, I just tried this (without adding to my blog post) and it was complete nonsense. Think you could be on to a winner here, Geoff…
