Yvonne Spencer mentioned this idea to me in a tweet this week. This is the question she posed after ruminating on some of the troubles blighting the world today.
How cool would it be if we could get 1000 bloggers on the same day to write posts about compassion, kindness, support, caring for others, non-judgement etc.? (Date to be decided.[it’s suggested 20th February 2015])
We could call it 1000 Voices For Compassion.
Who’s in?
Well I am. Here’s a link to the FB page she and her friends set up for a closed group you can apply to, to join in. She already has well over half the number. And this is her website. And this her twitter link.
If this might be your sort of thing, and we never know where a beat of butterfly wings might lead, then please take a look. Look at Yvonne’s blog anyway; she’s a woman with a perceptive mind and an enviable articulacy. I’ll be posting something on 20th February.
Will You?

About TanGental
My name is Geoff Le Pard. Once I was a lawyer; now I am a writer. I've published several books: a four book series following Harry Spittle as he grows from hapless student to hapless partner in a London law firm; four others in different genres; a book of poetry; four anthologies of short fiction; and a memoir of my mother. I have several more in the pipeline.
I have been blogging regularly since 2014, on topic as diverse as: poetry based on famous poems; memories from my life; my garden; my dog; a whole variety of short fiction; my attempts at baking and food; travel and the consequent disasters; theatre, film and book reviews; and the occasional thought piece. Mostly it is whatever takes my fancy.
I avoid politics, mostly, and religion, always. I don't mean to upset anyone but if I do, well, sorry and I suggest you go elsewhere.
These are my thoughts and no one else is to blame. If you want to nab anything I post, please acknowledge where it came from.
Interesting this word ‘compassion’ – and The Dali Lama has defined it correctly – compassion can only occur when something ‘common’ is shared among humans, hence compassion means ‘common passion’ – , so often the word is misused and mixed up with empathy.

Very true. If a straw poll was taken of those who have signed a lot would conflate the two concepts into one. I, of course, would never make that mistake!!

A great idea! There’s some really interesting therapy stuff about compassion but whether I’d join in or not will depend on whether I can link it to reading and writing. However, I’m not sure if the stuff I have in mind relies so much on the “common” interpretation of the word as flagged up by Avalina and it might be one area where I don’t want to get into semantics!

I sort of dodged Avalina’s prescrptive approach. But it is an interesting idea and given your incredible library I bet there is something you can link!

What a big-small world we play in! I was just asked to participate in the 1000 Voice Speak for Compassion event just last week.
